James Ellroy
James Ellroy nació en Los Ángeles en 1948. Cuando sus padres se divorciaron en 1954, se mudó con su madre a El Monte, una zona deprimida de Los Ángeles en la que, poco después, ella sería asesinada. Después de años de delincuencia, alcohol y drogas, Ellroy decidió rehacer su vida y retratar en sus novelas el oscuro mundo de los bajos fondos. Entre sus obras más conocidas se encuentran La Dalia Negra y L.A. Confidential, que fueron llevadas al cine y se convirtieron en grandes éxitos de ventas y crítica. Junto con El gran desierto y Jazz blanco, conforman el Cuarteto de Los Ángeles, tetralogía que se ha convertido en un clásico de la novela del siglo xx, y que Literatura Random House ha recuperado. América fue considerada la mejor novela de 1995 por la revista Time, y al año siguiente sus memorias, Mis rincones oscuros, publicadas también en este sello, volvieron a ser designadas mejor libro del año por Time y uno de los mejores libros del año por The New York Times.
